Deepika Padukone lands Happy New Year because Katrina Kaif couldn't do it

It is now clear that Shah Rukh Khan’s next production Happy New Year will feature Deepika Padukone. The news did not please those who were waiting to see the SRK-Katrina Kaif jodi re-unite after Jab Tak Hai Jaan. While Katrina Kaif was approached to do this film, she recently signed two new films — Kabir Khan’s for producer Sajid Nadiadwala with Saif Ali Khan and Abhishek Kapoor’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations — and so has no room this year for any other project. Says a friend of Katrina, “She would have loved to do Farah’s film. Farah initially wanted to sign a completely new girl for Happy New Year, but when she couldn’t find the right girl to play her leading lady, she zeroed in on Kat. The actress and Farah are very fond of each other ever since they worked together in Tees Maar Khan. The film’s failure did not affect their mutual fondness. To be in Farah’s next and that too with Shah Rukh with whom Katrina really hit off during Jab Tak Hai Jaan, would have been fab. She wanted to do Happy New Year but as Kat is committed to finish Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Dhoom 3 and Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang before working for Kapoor’s and Khan’s films, she could not do it.” Interestingly, Farah’s heroine has to be a fast-talking Marathi girl and also a fabulous dancer since it’s the role of a bar dancer. “Katrina would have needed a long period of intense speech practice to sound like a Marathi. But where was the time?” asks a friend of the actress. So KK’s loss was Dips’ gain.

Justin Bieber Attends Selena Gomez's 21st Birthday Party ustin Bieber and Selena Gomez are clearly on good terms. He paid his ex-girlfriend a surprise visit halfway through her 21st birthday party Saturday, July 27. Arriving at the event with his friends and bodyguards, he brought the birthday girl a single red rose. "Justin arrived at the party in his leopard-print Audi R8," a source told PEOPLE. When she saw him, she "started to cry," another source testified. "Justin and Selena went into the house to talk and were inside for a long time before sneaking out together." Gomez turned 21 on July 22, sharing the same birthday with Prince of Cambridge, George Alexander Louis. After a week of festivities, she held a gypsy-themed bash at the Revolve Beach House in Malibu over the weekend with her close friends. Despite the theme of the party, Bieber casually dressed in a black-and-green letterman jacket, dark jeans and white high-tops, while the rest of the guests like Julianne Hough, Nina Dobrev and Ashley Benson channeled their inner gypsy girls. The party which was also attended by Jaden Smith and Derek Hough came to a close around 2 A.M. Bieber and Gomez reportedly spent the rest of the night together at his home in Calabasas, Calif. Selena Gomez Performs on 'Good Morning America', Talks About Justin Bieber Recenty-turned 21-year-old pop star Selena Gomez was the featured artist for "Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series on Friday, July 26 and she entertained the Central Park crowd with tracks from her new "Stars Dance" album. She performed her first No. 1 hit, "Come & Get It", followed by her latest single "Slow Down" and ended her short set fittingly with the new song entitled "Birthday". Dressed in a black ensemble of a long-sleeved crop top and a pair of loose leather pants, Gomez sang and dished out some sexy moves with a small group of back-up dancers. She also closed the show with an older track "Love You Like a Love Song" which she released back in 2011 with her pop rock band The Scene under the album "When the Sun Goes Down". Prior to her well-cheered performance, Gomez first had a chat with hosts Sam Champion and Lara Spencer, with the interview topics ranging from what she does on her down time, her milestone birthday and her new sibling, but what got everyone's attention was when she was asked about her relationship with on-again-off-again pop superstar boyfriend Justin Bieber. And surprisingly, this time around, Gomez was open to addressing the Bieber-related question, unlike her recent live via satellite interview with Chicago's WGN-TV's Dean Richards that abruptly ended when the host raised a question about The Biebs. Gomez said she planned to remain friends with Bieber and that she would "always care about him and protect him if anybody tries to be mean."
